Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Chart Chasers! This week myself and the Chart Chasers fairy, who is a lot like Top Gear’s Stig, will be listening to the next set of new entries to the UK chart and this week there are an amazing NINE tracks to get our ears, pointy and otherwise, tuned into. Let’s do it!
The Chart Chasers fairy and I have just had a little discussion about today’s selection of songs. You see, three of today’s entries are technically re-entries to the chart but CC Fairy is arguing that they need to be included because they’ve yet to be featured. The first of these is AC/DC with Highway to Hell.
This classic rock track is all about the brilliant chorus. “I’m on the highway to hell” is such a famous line and you can’t help but sing along. Loving a bit of classic rock in the charts this week! 4/5.
Next up is DJ Fresh with Gold Dust. This is another new entry but obviously a much more recent addition than AC/DC. This was Mr. Fresh’s debut “hit” and it’s an awesome tune.
I adore this song. It’s fantastic because it’s so lively and just makes you want to run around or do skipping or something. Not great for singing along to though I must admit. Apart from that though this is perfection! 5/5.
Now for something BRAND NEW! This is from Rihanna’s latest album and she’s got some help from David Guetta who continues to his quest to collaborate with every top selling artist in the world. There can’t be many left he hasn’t worked with! This track is called Right Now.
I have a love/hate relationship with Rihanna which here means I hate this. I’ve hated the majority of Rihanna’s music and I just don’t “get” her stuff. This is for the most part horrendous- Guetta has put some pretty nifty bits into it but he’s also put some rubbish and has created this monstrosity. 2/5.
Let’s get back to the classic rock shall we? Or as you could maybe phrase it, Back in Black. That was one of the worst links I’ve ever done but let’s gloss over that fact. We’ve got more AC/DC in the charts!
This is such a classic I don’t think there’s anyway I can describe it. It’s pure brilliance and has one of the best guitar tunes of all time. 5/5 without a doubt.

It really is an odd mix of songs this week but it keeps us on our toes! Next up is a new track from Rudimental with vocals from John Newman and Alex Clare, both of whom have become big names lately. I’m expecting something awesome from this one. (The song starts at 0:45)
This is a great song but it’s not a patch on Rudimental’s big hit “Feel the Love”. The chorus and some parts of the tune feel a little lack lustre. It’s still a great listen though. 4/5.
Our next track comes from the brilliant songstress that is Christina Perri. This one is called A Thousand Years and I suspect its some sort of love song about love that last for a long time. I might be wrong of course but if I am I shall eat my hat.
Oh God, it’s a Twilight song! Actually the only good thing about the Twilight films are the soundtracks. I actually own the New Moon soundtrack and I’ve not even seen the film and Muse’s “Neutron Star Collison” is one of my fave songs ever. This is a great song and I don’t have to eat my hat. Perri has the perfect voice for this sort of song. 4/5.
Alicia Keys seems be struggaling in her long battle against pyromania as she has now set a Girl on Fire. (Now that was a decent link, makes up for that other rubbish one!) I have seen a status on Facebook saying this song is depressing and along with the title I’m inclined to think this isn’t one for someone who is feeling a bit down…
I really like this, another powerful song from a powerful singer. Alicia Keys has a fantastic voice and it’s put to great use here. 4/5.
Our penulimate song of the day is Something New from Girls Aloud by which I mean both that it is something new and that it is called Something New. I’ve also rated Girls Aloud as a girl band and it’s great to have them back (partly because it means Cheryl will stop making awful solo stuff for a while).
I’m in a bit of a dilemma about this song. I adore virtually all of it, especially that fantastic chorus. But then there’s that horrendous shouty “Go,go,go” bit which I find really annoying and unpleasant. It’s so close to perfect but the shouty bit brings it down a notch. Therefore it is getting a rare (so rare that this is the first time it has ever happened, according to CC Fairy) 4.5/5.
Our final track of the day is Troublemaker by Olly Murs with a little assitance from Flo Rida. Here we go!
I adore this. Flo Rida’s bit is a little unecessary but it in no way damages the song. This is such a happy pop song and it can’t fail to make you tap your feet and grin madly- well that’s what the CC Fairy is doing right now. An epic pop song. 5/5.
Well that’s all for today but what a fantastic selection we had! With the exception of Rihanna every song was a joy to listen to- if only every week was like this! Thanks for reading, please write a comment if you enjoyed it and I’ll see you later in the week! Ta-rah!
