Hello and welcome to my latest look at new UK music. This week there are FIVE new entries to the UK singles chart so let’s have a listen!
First up today is a track by Disclosure called Latch. Judging by the title I’m guessing it’s something to do with doors. The track also features Sam Smith who I’m pretty sure used to be a tennis player…
Well that was a decent enough dance track, pretty feel-good but nothing particularly special. I give it 3/5.
Next is my future wife Taylor Swift with I Knew You Were Trouble. I’m no trouble at all Taylor. Unless you’d want me to be. Ahem. I think there’s a fair chance I’ll like this one.
I quite like this, it’s a very different direction for Taylor. Very poppy. I don’t like the bit where she repeats the word trouble but apart from that I love it. Good work Taylor. 4/5.
Maroon 5 have a new song out and it’s called One More Night. Maroon 5 have made quite a lot of money lately so I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes another chart-smasher in a few weeks. Let’s see if it has the potential.
I’m not sure this is quite as good as say, Payphone, but it’s still a pretty decent song. Maroon 5 continue to perform great pop. 4/5.
Now it’s time for our second song of the week to do with Trouble and this one is by Leona Lewis. It also features Childish Gambino (as opposed to a mature gambino). Leona has a great voice but she’s not really lived up to her potential. Can she produce something brilliant with this one?
Well this certainly shows off Leona’s incredible voice but it’s a bit boring. It’s ok but it’s still a disappointment. Come on Leona, I know you can make something awesome but you never manage to! 3/5.
Our final track has gone straight to the top of the UK chart and is by Swedish House Mafia. It also features John Martin and is called Don’t You Worry Child. I’m intrigued by what this will sound like as the title almost sounds like a hymn!
That’s pretty epic! I like the main vocal but it’s all a bit stereotypical dance tune beyond that. Still, I quite like it. 3/5.
And that’s this week’s Chart Chasers done and dusted. Join us for more very soon!
