Wowzers Trousers

Hello everyone. I’ve not written a life update-type post for some time now because not a lot is happening. It feels much more like the summer holidays because I have finally left my uni house and returned to my parents house. It’s always nice to return home although it is sometimes frustrating not to have the freedom I do at uni.

Excitingly TV in the house has just got better. The main TV has been upgraded from Sky+ to Sky+HD which means we can watch everything in HD. It’s not amazingly better for most shows but for things like sport and wildlife programs it’s excellent. Not only that but we now have a second TV which has SkyHD on. So when my brother wants to watch really dull matches in Euro 2012 I can hide in the conservatory and watch something else. Don’t get me wrong, I like to watch England play but many matches will be dull and just not worth watching. But as it’s football my brother will watch it.

I also came home to find a stack of comics which have been delivered. I spent a good afternoon reading them all and loved it. I think The Amazing Spiderman is my fave right now. Although yesterday I received a new comic which I loved. It was issue 1 of a special story called Assmilation2 where the Star Trek: The Next Generation and Doctor Who universes combine. The Doctor, Amy and Rory join with the crew of the USS Enterprise to fight off a combined attack from the Borg and the Cybermen. So far it is incredible and I’m already looking forward to the next issue. Two of my fave TV shows combined is fantastic.

On Tuesday the family wanted to go clothes shopping and on the basis of having nothing better to do I decided to go with them. We all went off in different directions and arranged to meet an hour later. I was busily trying to find the perfect pair of trousers (seriously, my expectations of trousers are really rather high) when an alarm started going off in the shop opposite. I decided not to stick around and headed to my next target shop (sadly no good trousers there either). Suddenly the entire shopping centre was blasting out an alarm call. The alarm would go off and then a voice would go “The fire alarm has been activated. Staff are investigating. Please await further instructions”. This continued for a full half an hour and it was very annoying. It was probably fortunate that there was no fire because most of the shops would have burnt down in that time. My Mum was in a clothes shop which automatically brings the shutter down in front of the door when the fire alarm goes off and was therefore shut in, much to our amusement. Quite why the shop makes the shutter come down during a fire I do not know. They were just about to send everyone out through the fire exit at the back when the alarm stopped and the shutter opened. It was pretty amusing for the rest of the family to know Mum was locked in somewhere.

Actually I am having a thing with trousers lately. I just can’t find the right pair. I want them to be as manoeuvrable as tracksuit bottoms but not as scruffy. I always rip trousers just because I move my legs in weird ways that trousers aren’t designed for. I also want them to fit well, not be a horrible colour (sandy and plum coloured trousers are all the rage right now but I hate them) and to have securable pockets so stuff like my phone won’t move out. So far this combination has been impossible to find.

As it is the school holidays this week I have worked a couple of days, looking after children with special needs and/or disabilities. I first started doing this in 2006 so this coming summer will be my seventh there. I’ve gone from being the youngest staff member to one of the oldest and have gradually seen lots of children grow up. Yesterday was especially awesome and I had a fantastic time which greatly improved my overall mood. However, things could have been much worse. Just fifteen minutes after I had left one of the rides went horribly wrong. News story here. It’s fortunate that no-one was badly hurt. I’m glad that none of our children were on it because it could have had a serious effect on some of them.

If you read my Geekgasm post then you know I said that I might make another post about Nintendo’s special 3DS conference. It was at 2AM in the morning (for me anyway) so I didn’t watch it live but I discovered it wasn’t particularly exciting. There were no new announcements and just a bit more info about upcoming games, although nothing about Animal Crossing and the like. Once again Nintendo have been a bit disappointing in the 3DS department. The console is absolutely brilliant but the number of games available for it is still tiny despite the fact it’s been out for around a year. It’s about time Nintendo did something about this!

Since beginning this post I’ve ended up signing up for a weekend of research in the Brecon Beacons, a mountain range in Wales. It’s done through my uni and essentially will play out like a school trip and then I have do surveys and do a short little blog and stuff. The actual weekend involves climbing up mountains and suchlike. It’s will be a group of probably strangers and is something which will be completely out of my comfort zone. Despite all this I am very excited. I feel like I’m on the verge of becoming the person I want to be and feel like my life is going to change dramatically over the next year. And this thing could be the beginning!

Finally I am going to end with a special offer. Espada Limited have a T-shirt line of minimalist and vintage gaming designs. They’ve got some great geeky stuff there. And if you enter the code “intogeek” at the top of your screen you can get 30% off! Don’t say I never give you anything!
