The Lovely Waitress

Good day to you! I am currently indulging in one of my ever more common lazy days. It’s 7:30PM, I’m still in pyjamas with no plans to get out of them. And why the hell not, I don’t actually have anywhere to be until Thursday. Lucky me! So let’s look back at the last few days when things have been happening.

On Saturday my Dad and my brother happened to be playing hockey in Winchester. Whilst they were playing, my Mum and I looked around the Christmas market. Or at least tried too! Winchester was ridiculously busy, with both the high street and the Christmas market being incredibly challenging to move around. I have never seen Winchester as busy as it was this on Saturday. After pushing our way through the crowds and failing to find any presents, we decided to go for a coffee. Frustratingly all the coffee shops were queued to nearly the door and we ended up stopping in milkshake shop Shakeaway. Not exactly the coffee shop atmosphere we had hoped for.

In the evening we headed out for a meal. We tried Pizza Express only to find it was full. Then we went to Pizza Hut, which was busy but there was space for us. It began promisingly until the point that the waitress announced there was no lasagne. The waitress gave my Mum (who had ordered said pasta-dish) and said she would come back in a few minutes. After another twenty+ minutes there was still no sign of her. We were all quite hungry by this point and decided to give up and leave. Somehow I couldn’t help but feel guilty, despite the fact that I hadn’t done anything wrong. But that was not the most cringeworthy I felt in that short time at Pizza Hut. There is a waitress there who is especially lovely and efficient (OK, she’s really pretty and I fancy her a bit too). I noticed she was working but wasn’t serving us and shared the disappointment with the family. They asked me which waitress I meant and then my brother said “Do you mean this one?” and I turned to see the lovely waitress sorting the salad bar out, literally right next to me. Dear God, I was embarrassed. As far as I am aware the lovely waitress didn’t hear. But my brother tried his best to embarrass me!

Thinking about it, it would be pretty cool if I could have dinner at Pizza Hut and pretend I’m in a rom-com and leave a cheeky note on the bill with my phone number and an extensive tip. I am of course much to shy to do such a thing and the lovely waitress would probably end up putting a restraining order on me. If only life was more like the movies.

Anyway, our big family meal ended up being in McDonald’s. It wasn’t quite what I expected and in fact the day was pretty much ruined by the amount of people in Winchester. Honestly, these tourists coming over here and stealing our restaurant spaces… Still, it was nice to spend some time with the family, even if it wasn’t as good as I had hoped and expected. The day made me look forward to the Christmas holidays all the more.

Yesterday was an assignment day, where I first of collected the results of the group assignment we did a few weeks ago. We got a 2.2 which is a little disappointing but it could have been worse and at least we passed, so I guess we should just be appreciative of what we got. I also spent a fair while finishing my last assignment of the year, a history one. I’d already done the essay part but had to finish putting together a resource pack of an aspect of local history.  I am doing the workhouse in Ringwood and I’m really pleased with the pack I’ve put together. For once I’ve actually managed to present something pretty well, it looks lovely. But my best hopes for a good mark still lie with the English essay which I wrote breath-takingly early and get back next week. I’ll probably be more nervous going to get it as I will be really disappointed if the mark isn’t as good as I’d hoped.

Last night I went a bit crazy and bought this massive chocolate dessert thing which said on it “serves four” but should have said “Serves four or one Dan”. I may well die from over-eating, but at least I’ll die happy.

That’s it for this post. I’ve been writing it for hours but keep getting distracted. See you all soon!

  1. I would eat that entire chocolate dessert by myself too.

And about the waitress, even if she did overhear, she probably took it as a compliment. Most women, or at least myself, enjoy being told they're pretty. It's definitely preferable to being creepily hit on.
