News Review 1#

Good evening/morning/afternoon (delete where applicable). Today sees the last launch in my new batch of weekly features. Every Wednesday, or at least on most of them, I shall discuss stories from the past week of news and share my opinion on them. I am sure other people will have there own opinion so this could well be quite interactive.

The story that most interested me this week was the fact that the world population has now gone over 7 billion. Quite how “they” work this out I don’t know. Surely it cannot be that accurate. For all we know they could be a several billion out either way and no-one would know any better. As far as I can see this news story probably isn’t even that accurate but it makes you think. Just how many people can the world cope with. There is enough food and resources at the moment to cope with the population, even if they are not spread out as fairly as they ought to be. But resources run out and there is only so much food we can produce at a time. I think that nature is better than we imagine to be and somehow the situation where even more people are starving than today and they’ll be a plague or a massive earthquake or something which shrinks the population right back down again. There was actually a time when only around 5000 humans existed. We very nearly became extinct. As horrible as a catastrophic event would be, it might be the only thing that would save huge number of people from dying slowly and suffering horribly. But hopefully that won’t happen any time soon.

Hmm, that was an interesting start to a post, deciding a near extinction event would be a good idea. But it would work with animals so why not people?

On to entertainment now and the big news is Kim Khardashian’s divorce. I’m not really sure who Kim is but she's quite famous apparently. But just 72 days after getting married, she's filed for divorce. That is just ridiculous! Surely they could have tried to make it work for a bit longer. And perhaps they shouldn’t have leaped into marriage as soon as they did if it wasn’t the right thing, which clearly it isn’t. Marriage is supposed to be a commitment but 72 is no commitment whatsoever. I’ve had colds that have been more committed than that. There are two things that really annoy be about this story though. The fact that Kim is famous and no doubt an idol to some people who are quite young and this is the example she gives. Then there’s the wider scheme of things. Some people say that gay marriage goes against everything marriage stands for. But actually that’s complete crap because its Kim Khardashian sort of behaviour that goes against everything that marriage stands for.

I’m beginning to enjoy this feature. The final story I will tear apart today is the fact that a new album of songs by Amy Winehouse will be released. Now I’m wondering what the purpose of doing this. It seems likely that the record company are using her death to make more money. It seems almost certain the album will be a bestseller and will probably be top of the album charts for a while and I can’t help but feel this is some greedy record company people wanting more money. If all profits from it went to the Amy Winehouse foundation then I feel otherwise. But actually only a measly £1 from each album will do so. The record company will make millions due to her death and that couldn’t be more wrong.
