I have the slightly difficult challenge of writing this blog before I’ve actually done anything today. Explanations about that in a minute.
First I can talk about a few minor things that happened yesterday. I had my hair cut and this time the fringe will hopefully decided to stay fairly short until the next cut. Last night’s badminton session saw some truly awful games from me. I only succeeded in winning one out of seven though the huge gap between games wasn’t exactly helping. I’ve now answered my thousandth question on Formspring and it was asked by the mysterious Miss Anon. Still anonymous there though.
I finished reading “1984” yesterday and I really enjoyed it. My first thoughts were that Orwell (the author) was a bit out with the year but the terrible regime in the book is slowly being created. Then I realised that we aren’t actually that far away from it. Everywhere we go, we can be seen on camera. How do we know that the history we get taught actually did happen? Why should we believe the government telling us that the holocaust happened rather than the neo-Nazis? Either view is actually fairly plausible and it’s only the evidence that makes us believe it did happen. So we are pretty sure it did. But the government does kind of control history in a way. They can re-write little bits here and there until eventually over a period of a generation or two that entire piece of history has changed. That could actually be happening right now. How many of us really know what is going on in the government? We may well be in this terrible regime without even realising it. But the one thing we do have is freedom of speech. At least in this country. I can say pretty much what I like and know I will not be killed by it. So the state portrayed in “1984” isn’t exact but it could be more close than we even realise.
That was a rather deep and meaningful set of thoughts for this early in the morning. Time to go back to some more unimportant chatter. I would like to say a big hello to all my new followers! I have seventeen now and this is wonderful news. I love the thought that people actually read the nonsense I tap out here.
So why am I writing this so early on in the day? Well it is because I shall be out this evening at Sammy’s 18th Birthday Party. I’ve never been to a club before, it’s in Southampton which is at least half an hour drive away and I will know about three people there. That isn’t an exaggeration either, I genuinely will only know about three people. So it will certainly be an experience but I might make a new friend. Normally I would day no to this sort of thing, an adventure into the unknown, but I am trying to say yes to a lot more things nowadays. I want to avoid missing out on opportunities where I can. I am going there by National Express coach with Gemma, though she told me she booked tickets for a departure time which I later discovered doesn’t exist. If I do make it to the party by lovely father is picking me up at midnight. It is the only way I can get back. The party has a Hawaiian theme so I’m going to have to try and find a Hawaiian type-shirt in town later.
Next time you hear from me I shall inform you whether I made it to the party, how eventful it was and whether I had a good time. I shall put in some photos too if I have any. See you all soon!
