I’m still on holiday! It was an early start this morning in order to go and play laser combat. It’s pretty much the same as quasar or laser quest but is outside. Within two minutes of playing I had broken my gun and had to be given a new one. It then took several games before I realised that there was a laser dot in the sight which made aiming a lot easier. I was rubbish to begin with but I began to improve eventually. In one game, teams had to protect a designated VIP. Ours was a little ginger kid who somehow managed to kill most of our own team. I was left to defend him and would have lasted for a while had it not been for a communication error with my dad. I did really well at attacking the “fort” (wooden castle) thanks to some great hiding places and came 4th out of 12 in last man standing, after being shot by the winner. It was an enjoyable 75 minutes despite the ginger killer. I left the combat area with mud on both knees and a rip in my shorts.
After some lunch at the Sports Cafe (a rather average curry actually) and some messing around with my brother in the arcade (rubbish on Guitar Hero and lost at air hockey) we played some badminton. As badminton sessions go it wasn’t the best, thanks to the court being far too long and the artificial grass style surface being awful to run on as it has a huge amount of friction. This even caused me to get a pretty nasty friction burn on my leg. All this and the large amount of noise in the Jardin des Sports made it a little bit rubbish.
After opting out of playing tennis (I’m a badminton guy), we headed to the plaza again for some more swimming. The rapids were pretty busy but on the last go I finally managed to beat my brother to the end (though I will admit it did involve a fair bit of pulling him back). He of course claimed that he wasn’t actually racing so the race was void, but we all know he races every time he goes down there. I also went down the short, steep slides a few times. One of them has a bump in the middle and I was flying through mid-air after hitting it on one occasion.
We seem to have made friends with a squirrel. We saw it running around at the back of our villa and my dad decided to put some nuts out for it. The squirrel didn’t care we were stood only feet away watching it when there was food concerned and happily munched away. There are also some young moorhens wandering around our bit of the forest. They have feet which look several sizes too big for them and this makes them rather comical.
Unfortunately our villa is some way from both the Jardin des Sports and the plaza which means either a long walk or a ride on the land train. The land train is incredibly slow and isn’t massively faster than walking, but at least it involves very little energy. Already I have heard some rather amusing conversations on the land train. However there is annoyingly little leg room and twenty minutes on that really kills your knees (especially after they’ve endured laser combat, badminton and eight goes on the rapids).
Dad said to me, in reference to a groups of girls about my age, that I should me after such girls. And I suddenly realised that for the first time in quite a while, I’m not interested. Every attempt to turn a female into my girlfriend recently has ended terribly, with the result I even had one such case laughing at me on Facebook tonight. I’d rather be single than have all this stress. Maybe when I get to Uni I will meet a nice girl, or maybe later still, but for now I am, as Jason Derulo would say, ridin’ solo. And I actually quite like it.
